What Is Driving Defensive?

On many occasions you would have faced the situation of driving into a highway to find your self in a state when you almost avoided a collision in the last minute. It is true and fact, that most of the accidents happen not because of one person's negligence alone. It happens because at least two people have been negligent. That is exactly what driving defensive all is about. You need two hands to make a clap. Similarly, you need two mistakes to make an accident. Therefore, if you want to avoid accidents, then you need to be careful. Follow the rules of driving defensive where ever and when ever you are.

What are these rules for driving defensive? Many times we think driving defensive is a case where you are too careful and hardly drive at all. Not true! Driving defensive would mean that you need to ensure you are alert all the time and you follow all the rules without really bypassing any of them. For instance, if you are a defensive driver then you need to follow the following:

1. You need to wear your seat belt as a matter of routine.

2. You need to ensure that your car is in good working condition and would stop when you want it to and run when you want it to.

3. When some one says driving defensive, it does not mean that you run on the pavement away from the highway; no! But what it does mean is that you need to be alert to whatever is happening around you. You need to take care of the things that are happening around you and try to safeguard yourself when some thing goes wrong on the road. When the other person makes a mistake make sure you are taking care of the mistake. Only when both the people make the mistake, an accident occurs. It is true in some cases however, driving defensive you might do, you will not be able to avoid the other person who just rammed into your car. There is no saving from such an incident.

4. Ensure that you are following all the rules of the road. This would include following the right lane, the signals and other rules that are in force from time to time. If you follow all these rules and you stay alert, the chances that you are bound for an accident is very remote.

Therefore, the driving defensive would mean that you take care of all these steps and would also ensure that the extent of damage caused is minimal. Ideally you would like to avoid any damage. You have a number of schools both online and off line who teach how to do defensive driving and be a good driver in the school. You can also ensure that you are monitoring yourself very closely if you want to avoid a policeman pulling you up.
