Drive Safe With Aarp And Defensive DrivingAARP or American Association of Retired Persons, as it was earlier known is an organization that is devoted to making the life of retired people safe, more comfortable and healthier. As defensive driving is one of the many activities that this organization is involved in, aarp and defensive driving came into being as a focal point of the organization. Apart from helping people over the age of fifty cope with the idea of retirement, it involves them in as many activities as possible that focus on social responsibility. Since the year 1969, aarp and defensive driving have been closely liked. The volunteers of this organization undertook to teach the Defensive Driving Course (DDC) of the National Safety Council(NSC). In the ensuing decade, close to about 400,000 people were able to benefit from this course. Aarp and defensive driving therefore came to be synonymous with safe driving practices. Aarp and defensive driving ensured that the DDC catered to the needs of drivers from the age of sixteen onwards. After a successful ten year stint, since their inception in 1969, AARP began the AARP Driver Safety Program. This program was launched as 55 ALIVE, a successful program for mature drivers. Driving techniques were the salient part of this program; special care was taken to point out to participants the physiological and cognitive changes that took place in a person, which could have a bearing on their driving practices. This was proof to show that aarp and defensive driving were evolving with time. This particular endeavor was a major milestone in the history of aarp and defensive driving. Younger participants in the aarp and defensive driving program also benefited a great deal since the program that had been evolved took into consideration the probable physical and psychological changes that could take place in a person. For instance quick responses and presence of mind seem to diminish as a person grows older. Reckless and driving and non-adherence to traffic rules and regulations are some of the offences that younger drivers commit. Aarp and defensive driving tried to address all these problems and find suitable answers to the same. From the time of inception till the recent past, the aarp and defensive programs have gained recognition primarily because insurance companies recognized their contribution to safety laws. A number of states in America also passed laws that made it compulsory for people to pass the course if they wanted to be eligible for automobile insurance discounts. Till last count, 36 states have passed this mandatory law, including the District of Columbia. Since the induction of aarp and defensive driving, participants of the program feel that the courses undertaken help a person drive with a lot more confidence. Though there has been no statistical record of the reduction of accidents, AARP is confident that driver behavior has certainly changed for the better over the years after relevant safe driving laws have been passed. |
